Casting for a short film
Oct 1st, 2005, 7:18pm
This is a short film that makes the spectator question how a situation may appear at first glance, and the assumptions we make about so-called ‘professionals.’ The film opens in what appears to be a psychiatrist’s office. A man, who we assume is the psychiatrist, is sitting in a chair facing a woman who anxiously looks at her watch and says “He better be here in five minutes.” It appears she is waiting for her inconsiderate husband to attend a couples’ counseling session. Next, we see a man running down a busy sidewalk dodging traffic and various obstacles. The man is shown to have many neuroses and phobias as he encounters these obstacles. He runs into an office building, panting and out of breath from having rushed. He takes a moment to compose himself and then opens the door to a waiting room, in which we see the man and woman shown previously. He calls them in for their appointment, revealing that he is the psychiatrist late for their appointment.
Character Outlines
Jessica - A professional-looking woman in her late-twenties or early thirties. Smart, attractive and aggressive, a perfectionist type who works in the finance industry. She has high expectations of herself and the people around her. She is demanding, judgmental and self-involved.
Daniel - A professional-looking man in his thirties. He is calm and composed. An easygoing, good-natured and understanding man. He is introverted and seems to just go with the flow. He is more of a listener than a talker.
Saul - An unkempt, disheveled looking man in his late-thirties. He  is frantic, manic and slightly paranoid. He suffers from obsessive compulsive disorder and has a large number of unusual phobias, some of which are slightly ridiculous. He is highly disorganized and always running late. He is also intelligent, and intellectual. His greatest interests are academic, and he is a humanitarian at heart. He is sweet, sympathetic and understanding. However, his thoughts and ideas are scattered, and he often has trouble expressing them clearly. People often perceive him as strange but in an endearing rather than frightening sort of way.
